This is the most
recent procedure developed in the late eighties and has undergone
intense scrutiny and evaluation internationally. It essentially
consists of a laser beam that is able to remove tissue from cornea
with micro level accuracy. The use of this laser allows alteration
of the shape of the central or paracentral area of the cornea.
This alters the refractive power of the eye. International
evaluation has shown this procedure to be acceptable ,safe and
effective. This procedure is currently recommended only in
individuals who are eighteen years of age or have had a stable
refractive error for at least one year.
