LASIK Eye Surgery

LASIK vision correction surgery is performed in sterile conditions. To eliminate pain, the doctor applies anaesthetic eye drops. A small 'clip' is used to keep the eyelid open and a sterile drape covers the head.

A suction ring is applied to the eye and a very thin superficial flap of the cornea (approximately the thickness of a human hair and a quarter of the cornea's thickness) is lifted by a device called the microkeratome.

After lifting a superficial flap, laser is applied over exposed middle layer of cornea to give new shape & power to cornea. At the end, lasered area is covered by repositioning the superficial flap to its original place where it sticks by natural suction.

Epi-LASIK

In this procedure superficial flap is thinner than the flap in routine LASIK procedure & so more corneal bed will be available for treatment.

This more corneal bed allow surgeon to correct higher refractive error safely.

The benefits of LASIK vision correction include a pain free recovery, quick restoration of eyesight and better results for severe short sight. The inner eye is not pierced and stitches are not required.

After LASIK eye treatment

We recommend that you bring a friend/relative with you to the clinic to accompany you on your journey home. It is not expected that you will experience any significant pain, but you may need to take your own usual analgesic tablets. Eye drops will be given to apply during the first few days and clearer vision will return very quickly, probably within 24 hours.

Bilateral LASIK eye treatment

Treating both eyes on the same day is still controversial. Many consider it safer to wait until the outcome of the first eye is known. You should discuss this option with the doctor during consultation. Most people now choose bilateral treatment for reasons of convenience.

There is no additional charge for having your second eye treated on a different day.
